JANUARY´S BEST COUPLE

My sincere congratulations to January´s best couple in Social Sciences!
I hope you´ll continue doing your best with your new partners this term and, of course, I encourage everybody to improve day by day!
Congratulations!
Pilar

CONGRATULATIONS!!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

Today, I'm happy, happy, happy.
In fact, all the teachers belonging to the European Section are happy!!!
We (or better, "you") have won the second prize of theatre in Castilla la Mancha with the play "The Wizard of Oz", as you can see in this file.
We thank you and your families so much for your effort, motivation, and for making us so happy!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

JANUARY'S COUPLE (ENGLISH CLASS)

As you know, I don't like couples, that is, I prefer individual desks. However, as during first term you have been so good students, I have accepted your proposal of being in pairs this term. January's couple is...
ROCÍO ALCÓN AND BORJA LÓPEZ
Because they have improved a lot together, they participate a lot and they are so motivated!!!!

MATH TALES

Hannah Montana had three concerts in one day. She had 333 fans in the audience in each concert that day. One hundred and eleven of those fans were male. What fraction were female?

Willy Wonka was five when his Dad brought an evil oompaloompa home to the chocolate factory. The evil oompaloompa ate three chocolate bars, ten bags of jelly beans and five gumdrops. The next day, the Wicked Witch of the West visited the chocolate factory and ate twenty cotton candies, four gobstoppers and two jawbreakers. The evil oompaloompas and the wicked witch of the west meet up. Who ate more? What is the total amount of candy they ate?

The previous texts are called Math Tales. These are short stories with a problem to solve. What I suggest you to do is to write a funny math story with a simple problem to solve. Use negative numbers and negative situations (ex. Temperatures below zero, loans, money, debts, lifts…). Work in pairs. Include your names and stories as a comment, and, of course, solve your problem!

You can see more examples in http://mathtales.ca/stories.html

USEFUL VOCABULARY:

Below zero: bajo cero

Loan: préstamo

Credit: crédito

Steal, rob: robar

Lose: perder

Debt: deuda

Go down, decrease: bajar, descender

Go up, increase: subir, aumentar

Climb: escalar

Peak: cima, pico

lift: ascensor

basement: sótano

Enjoy it!
